The programme follows, and reflects, the musical interests of
James II and his queen, Mary of Modena, and their son James III,
the Old Pretender, from Saint-Germain-en-Laye through Lorraine
and Urbino to Rome. It includes music written and copied for the
court at Saint-Germain by Fede, A. Scarlatti, Desmarets and Lully,
arias copied for the court at Urbino and an aria from Bonnie Prince
Charlie's own score of Feo's Andromaca. It also includes
traditional songs and dances, among them 'James II's March' and
'The King shall enjoy his own again', two of the most powerful
political symbols of the English Jacobites.
Marie Vassiliou (soprano)
Harry Nicoll & Richard Edgar-Wilson (tenors)
John Trusler & Andrew Roberts (violins)
Marilyn Sansom (cello)
Jane Clark (harpsichord)
